The Case of Casey
by shz
In the past, I had never seen the last nine of American Idol. First of all, its American. I’m pretty prejudiced with the current American music scene in general. Its overrated, its too commercialized and no personality. So I never really bothered. Plus, back in UK they don’t really show American stuffs. But even when I get a chance to peek, it wasn’t even remotely interesting for me.
And then there’s this whole Chris Medina frenzy, that even if I watch it again now for the 28th time, will make me sob like a baby. That’s the starting point of it all. By the time they were shortlisting the Top 24, I was hooked. Even when I missed the live shows, I’ll make sure I watch the reruns. I gotta say, this year’s line up caught my eye. They’re not all pop and necessarily pretty and same old stuff it used to be. I was gonna give up on America with the beavers of Bieber and monsters of Gaga until along came Casey:
First of all, forget the scruffy beard, the uncombable hair and those teddy eyes so annoyingly close to each other. Guys, this kid is 19 years old. 19!! Not even 20! And have you seen him rockin’ that bass, which I’m sure isn’t the only instrument he plays? When was the last time you met a teenager who idolizes Ray Charles, The Beatles, Ella Fitzgerald or Kansas Joe McCoy? Casey is such a rare breed and personally, I think he’s just too talented for that show. But thank his lucky stars, otherwise we all wouldn’t had known him.
I am for once bumped hard to the ground when I learned that last week he was at the bottom of bottom 3. Thankfully the judges weren’t as idiots as the other Americans who didn’t vote for him, hence the save. It was one of the most emotional thing I’d ever watch on TV to see this old soul who’s trapped in a ridiculously young body ran off to hug his mom. With all the jazz and blues he did that normally only some middle age man could embrace, he’s actually just a kid inside. And I think everyone who saw that felt him, felt that too.
I don’t hope for him to win. With the shallowness of American people who normally would only vote for looks and high range voice, I’d be surprised if he did. But surely I’d be the first in line to get his records when he’s out. Casey is such a breath air for this dark age of American music industry. And I for one, am already a fan.
Yes. He’s talented. Did u know Adele? The singer from London. I’m totally amazed by her. Her new album 21 is really really good. Currently no 1 in UK for consecutive 9 weeks. If you want a good music perhaps you could try her album. Especially her performance at Brits Awards.
Yes, I know Adele. I think I prefer her first album with Chasing Pavements. On the song “To make you feel my love”, I prefer the original version by Garth Brookes, when it came out as OST of Hope Floats, I was in high school and got hooked on that song. I get annoyed when people remake an already, perfect song. Hahaha.
And I’m a much bigger fan of Amy Winehouse than Adele. 😉
I loooove Scotty’s and Jacob’s voice too.=)
Hahaha no offence. Scotty only caters to the country fans, which I’m not. And I cannot stand Jacob’s voice! Whenever he did one of those high pitch thingy, I feel like my fist can fit into his mouth!
hahaha!
ya,im not a fan of country’s too..but his is just soo unique.
while Jacob..i can only listen without looking at his face!hahaha.
btw,im yr junior during convent kajang..hehe!
If I could vote, my votes definitely go to Casey and Paul Mcdonald.. I love Paul’s Blackbird duet with I-didn’t get her-name 😉 and this AI season got 2 strong reasons for me to hook on..the line up and the new judges,JLo is soo soo humble and gorgeous..
I don’t see it in Paul, sorry! (Hahaha, I seem to be hving a lot of probs with the other contestants). If his face were to replace with Rod Stewart while he’s singing, nobody can tell the difference! And what is with the walk?
Yes, and Steven Tyler is soooooo so sososososo sweet!
Hahaha..you’re totally a Casey maniac =p *running away*
Hahaha, am not a maniac, just amazed at what a 19 yr old could do. But can you deny the similarity of Paul’s voice and Stewart’s is uncanny? Thats why I don’t get why some ppl think he’s one of the kind. Rod Stewart is his kind! Seen something like that already, 20 yrs ago. NEXT! *LOL*
yup, you’re rite on the stewart-mcdonald thing..couldn’t agree more.. perhaps he’s ‘one of the kind’ in American Idol context only.. anyway, im still voting for both casey n paul..hehe can’t wait to watch it tonight! hopefully both survive in tomorrow double kick-out..
Taylor Hicks was different back then and he won! Didn’t get the chance to watch the Idol this season because some technical error that we ended up not subscribing the Star World channel on Astro. *smack head*
After listening to his rendition of ‘I put a spell on you’, I think Casey is in the league of is own.
Haha, I started thinking the same after the Georgia On my Mind! Geez, that kid rocked that bass.
On this one kak, at first, I don’t have anything to say. I don’t watch all reality shows, be it a singing contest, searching for some millionaire to be lifetime partner or somebody got thrown into a jungle or left in a desert island. And actually hate very much “Real World” (MTV) type of shows(“Kardahsians”, “Housewives”, “Jessica Simpson”).
Cuma, about American; tak apa ke…saying about the Americans being so and so….hehe. On the other hand, your words represent British humors and banters! Hahaha! Which I missed!
Paloma Faith is a talented singer too. Try listening to her album Do You Want The Truth or Something Beautiful. Really good.
